Center for Medieval and Renaissance Studies Munich (ZMR - Zentrum für Mittelalter- und Renaissancestudien)

ranke1More than 80 academics based at a total of six faculties at the LMU are engaged in the study of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. The concentration and excellence of the research and teaching on this era at the LMU are unique in Germany and make Munich one of the outstanding locations for Medieval and Renaissance Studies in Germany and beyond.

The aim of the Center for Medieval and Renaissance Studies is to bring together research and teaching in this field. Thus, the centre addresses not only experts in the field who know about the importance of the location, but also a broader academic public and students, to whom the variety of subjects are conveyed in an interdisciplinary breadth which is not possible at any other university in Germany. Moreover, starting from the core area of the medieval millennium, the ZMR promotes dialogue across traditional subject and period boundaries.
